Welcome

Classes are on Monday evenings, (except bank holidays) with the last date in the spring term on 18 March 2024. Full tuition by a qualified friendly teacher - lots of laughs are promised!

Classes start at 7.35pm at a church hall in north Sutton Coldfield B74 4. Summer term starts 8 April 2024, and ends for the summer on 24 June, with the exception of 27 May.

Scottish dancing is fun, and helps you to keep fit as well as being a sociable activity. Come and give it a try - you'll find we are very welcoming. We often have a separate session for new dancers.

Men note: you don't need a kilt.

Beginners' questions

Will I feel welcome? One of our beginners said: "The fact that you make it easier for new members to join in with established dancers on Mondays, by having some basic teaching from a very tolerant and patient tutor is matched by the friendliness of the group. Rarely have I been involved with any group who aren't the least bit 'cliquey'. Made a huge difference being welcomed and accepted so readily."

Do I need to bring a partner? No, we change partners regularly and partners will be arranged for you. If you have never tried Scottish dancing before, we will start you with easy moves.

Can I bring a partner who doesn't dance? Indeed, you can. They will find plenty of people to talk to and the tea break is particularly sociable!

What should I wear? Any light clothing will be fine. We suggest layers; Scottish dancing is not a strenuous exercise, but it is exercise and you are likely to get warm so may want to remove a jumper, for example. Bring light shoes, preferably with a thin sole. Those of us who dance regularly wear ghillies or ballet pumps, but these aren't necessary to start with.

Ceilidhs

We sometimes help groups arrange ceilidhs; if you would like to hold a ceilidh for your organisation, please contact us. We have had many satisfied groups. Here is a quote from January 2024 where we led Burns Night ceilidh dancing for a Punjabi group: " You are such a wonderful leader!  Your instructions were clear and dance floor was full!  That tells something about the interest & enthusiasm you generated."

A ceilidh is a bit like a barn dance; the MC helps everyone enjoy simple dances to lively music.
